Spanish Silver Cup report-Thursday

UAE and Halcyon Gallery remain perfect; Ayala surprises Ellerston

By Alex Webbe

Halcyon Gallery (Charley Hanbury, Oliver Cudmore, Guillermo Terrera and Max

Routledge) remained undefeated as they managed to edge past El Rosario (Alejandro

Penafiel, Valerio Zubiaurre, Milo Fernandez and Salvador Ulloa) 12-11 in the opening

Silver Cup match of the day at the Santa Maria Polo Club in Sotogrande, Spain.

The win boosts Halcyon Gallery into a tie with Scapa AND UAE as the only undefeated

teams in Silver Cup play with identical 2-0 records.

It was an impressive Ellerston lineup (Johnny Williams, Ali Patterson, Gonzalo Pieres

and Facundo Pieres) that boasted two 10-goalers with Gonzalo and Facundo Pieres,

but it didn’t seem to bother Ayala (Inigo Zobel, Guillermo Willington, Pablo MacDonough

and Juan Jauretche) as they ran away with a 16-12 win.

The victory drops Ellerston to 1-1 while the Ayala team evened its record at 1-1.

Tommy Beresford fit nicely into the UAE lineup (Tommy Beresford, Jack Richardson,

Lucas Monteverde and Pablo MacDonough) in the absence of team captain HH

Sheikha Maitha Al Maktoum as the combination of Lucas Monteverde and Sebastian

Merlos had their way with a struggling Dos Lunas side (A Sainzde Vicuna, Jason

Warren, Diego Cavanagh and Tomas Garcia Del Rio) in a 16-10 victory.

The win kept the UAE record perfect at 2-0 while Dos Lunas remains winless at 0-2.

Silver Cup play continues on Saturday, August 10 with Royal Salute (0-2) facing Dubai

(1-1) at 5:30PM followed by a 7PM contest between HB Polo (1-1) and Scapa (2-0).
