PIAGET WHITE WINS THE MEMORIAL CUP IN OVERTIME

Memorial Cup1

This past holiday weekend, Piaget hosted the prestigious USPA Memorial Tournament in Wellington, Florida in partnership with the Grand Champions Polo Club. The tournament marked the end of the spring season. In a down-to-the-wire finish, Piaget White defeated Piaget Black to take home the 2012 Memorial Cup.

Entering the finals from a field of six teams, Piaget White was comprised of Marc Ganzi, Alessandro Bazzoni, Nacho Badiola and Lucas Lalor. Ganzi’s wife, Melissa Ganzi, fielded Piaget Black along with Gene Goldstein, Juan Bollini and Juan Badiola. Piaget Black had an 8-3 lead at halftime of the match; however, a rousing performance by Piaget White in the remaining chukkers, including a last-minute goal by Nacho Badiola, left the score tied. The Swiss luxury watchmaker and jeweler has a long history with polo and for more than three decades has been associated with the sport of kings in the United States, Argentina and Europe. Mr. Yves Piaget was a major supporter of polo in Palm Beach in the late 1970s and strongly believed that polo embodies the same attributes as his company’s timepieces: beauty, daring and precision. The brand introduced the iconic Piaget Polo watch in 1979. Piaget recently hosted the USPA Piaget Gold Cup at the International Polo Club in Wellington, Florida and will sponsor the Piaget Silver Cup in Santa Barbara, California later this summer.
