Terry Thompson Chevrolet’s GEM Car highlights Polo Silent Auction

The Polo at the Point Silent Auction is considered one of the most sought after silent auctions in the South. Spectacular displays in a high-top tent will showcase unique items from artwork to fine jewelry, and vacation getaways to spa certificates. With a goal of 300 items and a bigger goal of raising $50,000 this year through the auction, the Polo at the Point Silent Auction Committee has dedicated themselves over the last months to bring on the best Silent Auction of 2011.

This year’s Silent Auction committee includes Amanda Madden, Carolyn McLaughlin (co-chair), Beverly Smith, Susan Alsup, Sheila Ward (co-chair), Amy Gray (chair), Rosie McGowin (co-chair), Frank Hollon, Nancy Tippins, Jane Giffin, Sonja Pate, Jo Stupka, Beverly Wright, Annie Billingsley, Janice Maples, Effie Thompson, Glenda Murphy, and Kelley Hollister.

“Everyone who is asked seems to go over and beyond when it comes to supporting Polo at the Point. Maybe because it’s an all volunteer run event and proceeds directly benefit Mercy’s Guardian Angel and Thomas Hospital’s Pediatric Rehab programs,” shared Amy Gray, a three-time chair of the Polo Silent Auction. “Whatever it is, all of us appreciate the generous donations and commitment of our community

and local businesses. Our committee has been greatly dedicated to making this year’s auction one of the best in the area, and raising the much needed funds to support our local children.”

Along with Terry Thompson Chevrolet’s GEM Car, other unique items up for auction include fly fishing lessons by Jimbo Meador, a dove hunt including food and beverage for 20 at Oak Hallow, his and her Rolex watches from Zundels, original art by local artists, dinner for eight at the Camellia Café with Chef Ryan Glass, a private dinner party for eight at Dr. Betty Ruth Speir’s home, $1000 shopping spree at CK Collection, Hot Air Balloon Rides, signed memorabilia, golf packages, Gulf getaways and much, much more.

The 2011 Polo at the Point is Sunday, October 16, 2011 at the Sonny Hill-Clearwater Polo Complex in Point Clear. Silent Auction bidding begins at 11 am and all event attendees are invited to the Silent Auction tent with shuttle service available for tailgaters.

Sunday's event also includes world class polo, gourmet cuisine, champagne, divot stomping, tailgating fun, hat parade, reserved seating in the luncheon tent, garden party attire, and more.

Tickets range from $10 (tailgating) to $125. The Children’s Chukkar with players ranging in age from 8 to 15, a will highlight our community's future polo players at the half-time exhibition.
